Jagdish Saran Hindu Post Graduate College, Amroha — a beacon of higher education in Western Uttar Pradesh—was established in 1960 through the visionary efforts of Sahu Jagdish Saran, whose generous donation of over one lakh ten thousand rupees and approximately 17 acres of land laid the foundation of this esteemed institution.
Initially affiliated with Agra University, the college began its academic journey with seven undergraduate programs. The institution quickly expanded its academic horizon, introducing M.A. classes in English, Political Science, Economics, Sanskrit, Urdu, and Education in 1965, followed by Hindi at the postgraduate level in 1972–73. By 1973, the college had over 600 enrolled students and was soon affiliated with M. J. P. Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, in 1975. Marking a new chapter in its history, the college received affiliation from Guru Jambheshwar University, Moradabad, in 2025, strengthening its academic collaborations and regional relevance.
Over the decades, the college has seen remarkable infrastructural development. Classrooms and laboratories—particularly for Geography and Psychology—were built with the generous support of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and donations from the public and the college’s managing committee. The B.Com program was introduced in 1980, and three additional rooms were constructed on the first floor through community support. The establishment of the N.R.S.C. added a vital dimension to the college’s commitment to holistic student development by offering robust sports facilities.
